Straighter teeth, explained simply
Belfast Orthodontics provides health service and private orthodontic treatment for children, teenagers and adults – with clear advice at every step, from your first scan to your retainers.
Belfast Orthodontics is located within Turk Dental Care, 114 Castlereagh Road, Belfast BT5 5FR.
Waiting for your child’s health service assessment?
Every child referred by their dentist gets a free assessment to see if they are eligible for health service (NHS) orthodontic treatment. The wait for this assessment is usually 6–12 months, then 3–6 months to start treatment, depending on the case. If you would like it sooner, you can self-refer, or ask your dentist to refer your child, for a private rapid assessment, which costs £155. It combines your records appointment and your treatment planning appointment in one visit, because you meet the orthodontist at your Rapid Teen Assessment and get both done. This does not make your child more likely to get health service treatment – it simply means you skip the waiting list for the assessment.
Your journey, step by step
Records appointment
We take a 3D digital scan of your teeth and some photographs.
We review your records
The orthodontist looks carefully at your scan and photos. We contact you within 12 weeks.
Your treatment planning appointment
At this appointment, the orthodontist explains whether health service funding applies, whether you are ready to start now or should wait, and agrees your treatment plan with you.
Treatment
If you go ahead, we fit your fixed braces or clear aligners and see you regularly to check your progress.
Retainers
Retainers keep your teeth straight after treatment. Two sets are included with private treatment. Teeth move throughout life, so keep wearing them.
A fully digital practice
We use digital scanners for all our records, retainers and aligners, so there’s no impression material and nothing gooey or messy to bite into.
Keep your smile straight
Teeth can move back at any age. Retainers hold them in place – so wear them every night while you sleep (8 to 10 hours) for as long as you want straight teeth.
If your teeth move and we did your original braces, for us to treat you again to straighten your teeth it will cost £1,245 per arch (£2,490 for upper and lower). Otherwise, our standard private prices apply. The health service never pays for a second course of treatment.

Orthodontic treatment in Belfast
How much do braces cost in Belfast?
At Belfast Orthodontics, private metal braces and clear aligners cost the same – the price depends on complexity: from £2,900 for super mild cases (usually less than 2 months), from £3,900 for moderate cases (usually up to 12 months) and from £4,900 for complex cases (usually more than a year, may involve extractions). Health service (NHS) treatment is also available for those who qualify. See our costs page and our braces cost guide for details.
Can I get braces on the health service in Belfast?
Yes, if you qualify. Health service (NHS) braces are only provided when your teeth are significantly out of position. The orthodontist decides this using a national scoring system called IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need). We normally only treat patients younger than 18 for health service treatment. If your need is too mild to qualify, private treatment is available. See health service or private.
How long is the waiting list for health service braces?
Health service (NHS) waits are usually 6–12 months for assessment, then 3–6 months to start treatment, depending on the case. Private treatment has no waiting list.
Do I need a referral?
For health service (NHS) treatment, you need a referral from your dentist. For private treatment, you can refer yourself using our self-referral form or by contacting the practice.
