Braces trap food, so cleaning takes a little longer. Follow these steps after every meal and before bed.
Step by step
Fluoride toothpaste
Brush after every meal and before bed.
Above, on and below
Brush above, on and below the brace, and along the gums.
Interdental brushes
Clean between the brackets and under the wire.
Do not rinse
Leave the toothpaste on your teeth so the fluoride keeps working.
Check in a mirror
Your teeth and brace should look clean and shiny.
Extra tips
- Use a fluoride mouthwash every day, at a different time from brushing.
- Carry a travel toothbrush so you can clean after lunch.
- Poor cleaning can leave permanent white marks and tooth decay.
- Keep seeing your regular dentist for check-ups.
